RICK SMITH, CINEMATOGRAPHER
Rick’s films and images have been awarded for their authentic narratives and powerful aesthetic. After an undergraduate degree in biology from Whitman College in Walla Walla, WA, and a couple years as a field researcher, Rick switched gears and got in touch with his artistic side. He received his MFA from Montana State University and went to work as a cinematographer and producer specializing in wildlife and adventure television. His technical expertise and ability to thrive in the toughest of field conditions made him an asset as the series DP for the Nat Geo Wild series America The Wild which took home the award for “Best Presenter Led Show” at Wildscreen, the worlds most prestigious wildlife film festival in 2010. Most recently, he won the 2014 National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences NW Emmy for best Photographer of a Program for Indian Relay which premiered nationally on PBS’ Independent Lens.
